Message from the Club President
The Heidelberg Soccer Club is alive and well! 2006 was an exciting year. We formally re-established the club, and several new teams were formed. So many people are volunteering their time and efforts to building the club again. We owe a great deal of thanks to all volunteers, players and coaches making the club a success. Think of what you can do to contribute to the clubs future. Keno President HSC Visit the web site at http://www.heidelbergsoccer.com for the most up to date information. *************************** * CLUB ADMINISTRATION * *************************** June 2006 Charter signing A club constitution and bylaws were proposed and accepted. 2006 Board of directors elected. The Club Mission was accepted. 1. Field adult teams 2. Preserve the history of the club 3. Obtain a field and clubhouse Club meetings are held the first Tuesday of each month at Scoots in Heidelberg. On January 2, 2007, the Board of Directors and officers for 2007 were elected. Craig Drinkhall President, Stayton Green VP, Mike Wissel Secretary, Missy Wissel Treasurer , Lee Coughenour, Amy Krek, David McKelvey Board Members. Membership defined as current players, coaches, and administrators. Membership can be obtained for fans at $5 / year or $20 for a lifetime membership. Membership dues are set to help pay for administrative expenses to support the club. Membership privileges include voting for board of directors at the annual meeting, mailing list for printed materials and notifications of events. Please see if you can do a small part to assist in keeping the club alive. *************************** * TEAM UPDATES * *************************** O20 The most exciting team update, a new team entered into GPSL, the open age division. Made up primarily of Chartiers Valley alumni, HSC finished the regular season with a record of 6 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie, good enough to finish in the top 2 of their division to qualify for the league playoffs. The team ended a tremendous season making it to the GPSL finals before losing a heartbreaker in overtime to Plum 4-3. The team also entered into the PA Cup tournament, but was eliminated in the quarterfinals. There are several former players with sons on this roster Mick Wissel, Brian Taucher, Justin Taucher, and Adam Gazda. Managers Mike Wissel and Craig Drinkhall O40 Spring results Had a respectable season with a third place finish. New players, Dave McKelvey, Vince Schmidt, Manager Craig Drinkhall Fall Results New players, Matt Veres, and Lee Fisher. The team completed an undefeated 10-0 season, finishing with a playoff win over Northern United to become the PMSL fall Series A champions view the website for photos. O50 New team, Manager Jim Theiman, list of players include, Bob Gerrero, Gerry Croce, Roger Shaw, and Tom Marshall. O30 Current team folded 3 years ago. HSC would like to field the O30 team again to create a full progression for all age group players. If anyone is interested in forming and managing the team, please contact anyone on the board. Womens recreational league Lady Tornados. Spring 2006 held a 6 game season. 4 teams. Hoping to recruit additional players for Spring 2007 session. The league is open to women of all ages and skill levels. Eventually we hope to enter a team in WPGSL. *************************** * WEB SITE UPDATES * *************************** New sections since last newsletter Personal journals Dave McKelvey, Dale Sams journal rescued from the hurricane Ivan flood. Trophies significant contribution from Sandy Utchel Tinney Several photos and jerseys donated Several new years of the CVHS yearbook were added. If you have years we need, please scan and send them in. Web site visits have increased to over 5,000 per month! If anyone would like to obtain advertising or sponsorships, contact the board. *************************** * EVENTS * *************************** Held the annual fundraiser at Heidelberg Fire Hall. Thank you to everyone that contributed and participated to make it a success. HSC raised $2,000, which will be added to the general fund to support all the teams. Held the annual single men versus married men game on Tuesday July 4 at CVIS. Result was Married 3 Single 2 (OT). The event was followed by a picnic at the Heidelberg Fire Hall parking lot. We will hold this event again on July 4, 2007. *************************** * FIELD UPDATES * *************************** Currently HSC uses fields owned by the Chartiers Valley School District, specifically two fields at the primary center and one field at the intermediate school. We pay rental uses on a per game basis. Several proposals are being considered for acquiring a field. This will be a major capital project and will likely require significant funds. If anyone is interested in serving on a committee to work on this important activity, please contact the board. Heidelberg Boro is considering adding a park with a field in the former location of the scrap yard. *************************** * NOTICE * *************************** This newsletter is sent only as an opt-in format.
